Poetry Thursday — People Can Be Like Books

Hello, I’ve returned!

And with another poem of course.

Ever notice how similar people and books are?  There are even cliche phrases about it.  I desperately attempted to avoid them.  I think I did a good job.

This poem went through several revisions until I could get it just right, but here’s the finalized product.  (It’s hard to get the figurative language just right, you know?)

People Can Be Like Books

Book burning
Broken spine
Loose pages haphazardly
Taped back in
Paper crooked now
Wrinkled and yellowed
Clearly read ink
Smeared now
Information to oblivion
Can you be sure
What happened
To reduce beauty
& grace to this
Disgrace? Ash borders
Ruined pages, water logged
In rescue efforts
Books are about heroes
But who knew they themselves
Could be the same
Brave little books
Made of wisdom
Ruined in another’s
Quest for knowledge

Thank you so much for reading!  I really appreciate you taking a moment out of your day to read this.  I hope you have a lovely evening!
